Course Description:
This series will provide the participant with information regarding exercise testing and prescription for the pulmonary patient, as well as application of this information to the diverse populations of patients in a pulmonary rehabilitation program. The program will provide background information on several pulmonary disease classifications, and the development of a pulmonary rehab treatment plan for each classification. The course will culminate on part six with case examples representing the diverse populations presented throughout the series.

#1 - Exercise Testing and Prescription for the Patient with Respiratory Disease


Topics:
  1. Exercise intolerance in respiratory disease.
  2. Rationale for exercise testing.
  3. Types of exercise tests appropriate for people with respiratory disease, and information gleaned from each type of exercise test.
  4. Choosing the most appropriate exercise test.

#5 - Thoracic Surgeries


Topics:
  1. Discussion of surgical procedures, including wedge resection, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, lung transplant, and placement of bronchial stents and valves.
  2. Education appropriate for a person following any of the above surgical procedures.
  3. Exercise prescription specific for a post-thoracic surgery patient.
  4. Case examples of exercise prescription for a post-thoracic surgery patient.

  2. Identify the educational components of a pulmonary rehabilitation program individualized to a thoracic surgery patient.

#6 - CMS Rules for 2010 and Case Studies


Topics:
  1. Discuss case examples of patients with obstructive lung disease, interstitial lung disease, obesity-related lung disease, and post-thoracic surgery.
  2. Review treatment plans for the diverse populations presented in the case examples.
  3. The new CMS Rules for Pulmonary Rehab reimbursement for 2010.

  1. Identify the new CMS Rules for Pulmonary Rehab reimbursement for 2010.
  2. Describe case examples of patients with obstructive lung disease, interstitial lung disease, obesity-related lung disease, and post-thoracic surgery.

Nurses – Academy Medical Systems is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s COA.

Exercise Physiologist – ACSM recognizes AMS’s approved provider status with the ANCC and will honor our continuing education for Certified Exercise Physiologist recertification purposes.

Certified Cardiovascular Techs – Cardiovascular Credentialing International recognizes our approved provider status with the ANCC for continuing education courses for CCTs.

Certified Athletic Trainers – Academy Medical Systems is recognized by the Board of Certification (BOC) to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers. 9 hours will be awarded at the completion of this program.
