PURPOSE & CONCEPT…
This new, one-day workshop will focus on
the various sources of law that directly impact the
Nursing Profession. More nurses are being named as
defendants in malpractice claims. As nurses take on more
responsibilities, they are exposed to an increasing
number of malpractice suits. As professional roles
expand, nurses are becoming more vulnerable to
malpractice lawsuits. Nurses must become aware of the
Nurse Practice acts and understand that their failure to
document appropriate patient progress or lack thereof
may bring about a case. Inappropriate Discharge Planning
has become an increasing area for litigation.
Documentation in the medical record is key to a good
defense.
This workshop is taught from the perspective of both a
plaintiff and defense attorney’s bird’s eye view. A
legal perspective implication of what to document, what
to say, and how to make your patient care outcomes
reflect seamlessly in a medical record.
BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES…
At the conclusion of the workshop the successful participant will be able to:
Describe the driving forces increasing litigation.
Identify the elements for a Prima
Facie case in Negligence.
