PURPOSE & CONCEPT…

This workshop provides healthcare professionals with a comprehensive review of the most current diabetes management techniques, particularly as these relate to prevention of diabetes complications, especially cardiovascular disease. Clinicians will come away with a clear definition of the metabolic syndrome and the chronic diseases that are associated with diabetes and premature heart disease. Specific assessment tools and methods are provided to assess health, fitness and to prescribe health and exercise prescription for the diabetic patient with heart disease. Application of the new American College of Sports Medicine guidelines is provided.

WORKSHOP FACULTY…
Invest in an educational day with Tim Maynard, BS, MSS, a published diabetes educator, National Conference and University lecturer with over 15 years experience in hospital-based diabetes and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs. Mr. Maynard has been associated with the AADE (American Association of Diabetes Educators), having earned a certification as a diabetes educator (CDE) in 1988, is the past-instructor Exercise Course for ASIDE (Advanced Studies Institute for Diabetes Education) and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for The Diabetes Educator journal. Mr. Maynard is also associated with the ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) as a certified clinical program director, lecturer and is a past member of the ACSM National Committee for the Certification and Registry Board.

For those participants requiring hospital authorization, pre-enroll by phone once approval is received (checks can arrive after enrollment). Payment must be received prior to workshop date. Confirmation will be provided upon enrollment. No tape recorders please.

Personalized Certificates of Completion (CE validation) will be provided at the end of the workshop. Registrations made inside of 10 days of event will receive Certificates in the mail.

ACCREDITATION:
Nurses: Academy Medical Systems is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Michigan Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
7.2 contact hours will be rewarded to nursing professionals at the completion of this workshop. Academy Medical Systems is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (#CEP14413) for 7.2 hours and a provider approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (#50-19) for 7.2 hours. Hours awarded for home study varies with each program. Please refer to the selected home study description.
Dietitians and Registered Dietetic Technicians: Academy Medical Systems is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 6 continuing professional education units (CPEUs)for completion of this program/material.
Exercise Physiologists: ACSM recognizes Academy Medical’s approved provider status with the ANCC and will honor continuing education hours for Certified Exercise Physiologist re-certification purposes.
Certified Athletic Trainers: Academy Medical Systems is recognized by the Board of Certification (BOC) to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers. 6 hour will be awarded at the completion of this workshop.
Physical Therapists: Applications have been submitted to GA, MD, NY, D.C. Boards/ Associations for approval. Please contact AMS for status of application. PTs in MA, NH, CT, NJ, PA will receive 6 hours (0.6 CEUs) at the completion of each workshop.
Occupational Therapists: OTs will receive 6 hours (0.6 CEUs) at the completion of the workshop. Academy Medical Systems has Approved Provider Status with the AOTA, Provider # 5470. Please contact your state O.T. board if you have questions regarding their continuing education requirements.
Certified Diabetes Educators: Academy Medical Systems' approved Provider Status with the ANCC (nurses) and the CDR (dietitians) is recognized by the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE). Nurses will receive 7.2 contact hours and Dietitians will receive 6.0 continuing professional education units for each course.
