PURPOSE & CONCEPT…

This completely new one-day workshop provides the essentials for working with the individual who suffers from any of the following: diabetes and hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, obesity, and/or other complications. The latest research regarding patient education, exercise prescription and exercise precautions will be presented in a common sense approach emphasizing practical applications allowing the health professional to better serve the patient.

This exciting workshop is intended for any professional working with the individual with diabetes and hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, obesity, and/or other related complications. Specifically, it will benefit:

BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES…

At the conclusion of the workshop the successful participant will be able to:
Explain the overwhelming economic impact of various disease states and their associated pathogenesis.
Describe individual risk factors for the development of CAD and PAD in patients, and discuss both primary and secondary prevention goals.
Describe the global impact of obesity and its association in the development of co-morbidity.
Identify management techniques to address hypertension, dyslipidemia, and hyperinsulinemia.
Describe signs and symptoms associated with each disease state, and discuss their influence on patient performance.
Identify the most recent guidelines for exercise testing and prescription as indicated by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), AACVPR and AHA.

WORKSHOP FACULTY…

Spend an informative day with Steven Greenwell, MS, RKT, an experienced clinical exercise physiologist, national conference and university lecturer, and clinical educator. Mr. Greenwell has over 15 years in fitness and wellness, and has specialized in the area of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. A former supervisor of a hospital-based cardiopulmonary rehabilitation & wellness program, he was responsible for developing exercise prescriptions, clinical exercise testing, and program development and staff/patient education. Mr. Greenwell is well versed in exercise testing and prescription, from testing human performance for the athlete, to developing detailed exercise prescriptions for special populations. He currently works for a large, progressive cardiology practice, where his responsibilities have included performing diagnostic stress tests.

Mr. Greenwell received his undergraduate degree from Murray State University in Exercise Science, and completed his graduate work at the United States Sports Academy. He is associated with the American College of Sports Medicine (national conference lecturer), the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and the American Kinesiotherapy Association. He has also taught at the University level for the University of South Alabama and the University of Southern Mississippi.


GENERAL INFORMATION...

REGISTRATION:

You may register on-line by choosing one of the dates at the top of the page or print out the PDF and simply complete the enrollment form and enclose the appropriate tuition fee (or credit card info). For those participants requiring hospital authorization, pre-enroll by phone once approval is received (checks can arrive after enrollment). Payment must be received prior to workshop date. Confirmation will be provided upon enrollment. No tape recorders please.

Seminar Workbook included in price.

Personalized Certificates of Completion (CE validation) will be provided at the end of the workshop. Registrations made inside of 10 days of event will receive Certificates in the mail.

Tuition and travel/meal expenses related to professional education may be tax deductible (consult your tax advisor for more details)

ACCREDITATION:

Nurses: In AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN and VA will receive 7.2 hours for completing this program.
Academy Medical Systems is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Michigan Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. ANCC is accepted by most State Nursing boards in the USA. Academy Medical Systems is also a provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider #CEP14413, and the Florida Board of Nursing, provider #50-19.
Dietitians: Academy Medical Systems is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 6 continuing professional education units (CPEUs) for completion of this program.
Certified Athletic Trainers: Academy Medical Systems is recognized by the Board of Certification (BOC) to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers – Provider # P925 for 6 CEUs.
Personal Trainers: American Council on Exercise (ACE) has approved this workshop for 6 hours (0.6 CECs).
Exercise Physiologists: This program has been submitted for approval by the AAVCPR for 7.2 hours.
Physical Therapist: Will receive 6 hours (.6 CE units) for completing this workshop.
Respiratory Therapist: An application has been made to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists (for 6 hours).
