PURPOSE & CONCEPT…
This dynamic one-day seminar is essential
to anyone who is involved in wound management in varied
settings and wishes to get positive results. The content
covers basic information and beyond to interest the
novice-to-skilled wound care clinician. Attendees will
interact with the instructor and take an advanced look
at the wound care population and the latest
interventions to develop a comprehensive and effective
wound management team.

1. Understanding the wound environment

Review basic anatomy and physiology for wound healing.

Discuss risk factors impeding normal wound healing.
2. Understanding common wound types, their
presentations and care

Be able to correctly recognize and
distinguish between diabetic ulcers, venous
and arterial insufficiency, pressure ulcers
and other common wound diagnoses.
3. Assessment techniques for the
wounded person

Learn proper testing, technique
and medical terminology to assess and document.

measures to rule out other diagnoses.

treatments and realistic goals

WORKSHOP FACULTY…
Spend an exciting day with Hollie Smith, BS, PT, CWS a
national health professions educator, consultant and
lecturer. Ms. Smith has over 11 years experience in wound
care. She is currently Program Director of the Wound
Management Center that she opened in 2000 and has experience
in all settings including acute, inpatient and outpatient,
home health and skilled nursing. She also does consultation
work in all settings.
Ms. Smith has been a guest lecturer for various universities
on wound care as well as providing continuing education
programs for West Tennessee Healthcare. She graduated from
the University of Tennessee, Memphis with a Bachelor of
Science in Physical Therapy. She is a Certified Wound
Specialist and is an active member of the American Academy
of Wound Management, American Physical Therapy Association
and Tennessee Physical Therapy Association.

by the Michigan Nurses Association,an accredited approver by
the American Nurses
Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Registered Nursing (#CEP14413) for
7.2 hours and a provider approved by the Florida Board of

Dietitians and Registered Dietetic Technicians:
Academy Medical Systems is a Continuing Professional Education
(CPE) Accredited Provider with the Commission on Dietetic
Registration (CDR). Registered dietitians (RDs) and dietetic
technicians, registered (DTRs) will receive 6 continuing
professional education units (CPEUs)for completion of this
program/material.
Certified Athletic Trainers:
Academy Medical Systems is recognized by the Board of
Certification (BOC) to offer continuing education for
certified athletic trainers. 6 hour will be awarded at the
completion of this workshop.
Physical Therapists:
Applications have been submitted to GA, MD, NY, D.C. Boards/
Associations for approval. Please contact AMS for status of
application. PTs in MA, NH, CT, NJ, PA will receive 6
hours (0.6 CEUs) at the completion of each workshop.
Occupational Therapists:
OTs will receive 6 hours (0.6 CEUs) at the completion of the
workshop. Academy Medical Systems has Approved Provider
Status with the AOTA, Provider # 5470. Please contact your
state O.T. board if you have questions regarding their
continuing education requirements.
Certified Diabetes Educators:
Academy Medical Systems' approved Provider Status with the
ANCC (nurses) and the CDR (dietitians) is recognized by the
National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators (NCBDE). Nurses will receive 7.2 contact hours and Dietitians
will receive 6.0 continuing professional education units for
each course.
